Frontend Engineering
GIMTEC becomes Frontend Engineering Newsletter.
Announcement
I have an announcement to make:
GIMTEC becomes Frontend Engineering Newsletter.
This is only a name change. Author, content, mission, and frequency stay the same.
Why “Frontend Engineering”?
After almost two years of writing this newsletter, I have found my voice, and “Frontend Engineering” describes it better than GIMTEC.
I want people to know what to expect when they read the title and subtitle of the newsletter.
As a matter of fact, “Senior Frontend Engineer” was my first role in Zurich. The name of the position surprised me, and I asked my manager why that name. He said they wanted to highlight that the job was not about building a website but a maintainable software that happened to be a web application.
They differentiated “developers” and “engineers” by their mindset. The developer solves the current problem, and the engineer prepares for the ones to come.
“Engineering is a mindset. It’s an approach to making things.” Someone on Quora.
Five years after that, I am still proud of being a frontend engineer.
Will the Content of the Articles Change?
No, there are three main topics that I care about and will continue writing about:
Frontend and web development.
For example, Process Is Not Defined and Functional Components.
Software engineering best practices and fundamentals.
For example, Value Objects and Metaprogramming.
Productivity, process, and soft skills in a team and as an individual contributor.
For example, Async Meetings and Product Engineer Mindset.
I don’t write about new libraries or news. I also don’t write tutorials or “how-to” articles. There are enough of them on the internet.
I prefer topics and concepts that don’t change so much with time.
I write articles that (I hope) will be relevant in ten years.
Thank You
Thanks to you for being a subscriber to this newsletter. I appreciate it, and I hope we’ll keep learning together.
I’m always glad to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any feedback about the name change 🙏

I just feel the new name is quite commonplace. GIMTEC had an aura of uniqueness around it. 😄
I like the new name, it describes your publication more clearly. What is the story behind the old name?
